The scaphism
The victim, once stripped naked, was placed inside a hollow tree trunk (or a canoe, with another canoe on top) with only the head, hands, and feet protruding. The victim was then placed in a body of stagnant water or under the sun. These parts were then covered in honey and milk to attract insects.
The victim was fed exclusively milk and honey (often spoiled), for two reasons: first, to prevent the poor victim from starving to death, thus prolonging his suffering; second, to cause the victim to suffer bouts of diarrhea, leaving him immersed in his own feces and attracting even more insects. These insects often entered the unfortunate victim's anus and laid their eggs
